Hilary
finishes long season with PB
Friday
night marked the end of a bitter-sweet season for Hilary as
she cross line ahead of her previous best, but behind her
goal time for the night. Instead of the more common 1500m,
it was the mile that would close the season.
Going into the
race, Hilary wanted to focus on breaking the Canadian record
of 4:23.27, but she knew she would have to be on top of her
game to do so. Unfortunately, with fatigue setting in from
a long season, she just didn’t have it.
“I know that
I’m capable of breaking that record and I went after
it in the race, but I just didn’t have it in the last
half,” said Hilary after the race. “In my head,
I was really motivated to go for it, but I just didn’t
have it. I think my body is ready for a break and to re-load
for the coming year.”
Although disappointed,
Hilary finished the race in a personal best time of 4:28.62,
three seconds ahead of her previous best, which she usually
runs in the indoor season. But, she says she still isn’t
giving up on the record.
“Getting
the Canadian Record is a major goal of mine. In addition to
this one is the outdoor 1500m record of 4:00.28 which is even
more important to me and one I’ll be aiming for in the
next couple years.”
Although Hilary
was short of some of her time goals this season, she finishes
off the year as the Canadian 1500m champion, a World Champ
semi-finalist and with personal bests in every event she competed
in this summer: 800m, 1000m, 1500m and mile.
Before she begins
her base phase she will take a couple weeks of rest to re-load
for the 2008 Olympic year.
