temperatures add challenge in Bulle
After a fairly mild week, temperatures plummeted just
in time for Saturday's Corrida Bulloise road race, which made
the 600m loop-course much more challenging.
With temps around minus 10C and winds gusting,
one would think it would dampen the spirits of runners and
spectators, but the streets were still packed in this small
town of Bulle. And fortunately for the elite runners, people
stuck around until the bitter end to cheer on the world-class
fields.
Women from Kenya, Ethiopia and neighbouring
European countries, negotiated the 10-lap course in a very
competitive race. Hilary put herself in good postition for
the first half of the course, running close to the lead pack,
but was disappointed to lose ground in the second half of
the race.
"I had a good start and felt great for
the first half, but I think I underestimated the cold weather
and probably didn't wear enough. I couldn't really feel my
legs after about the 3km," said Hilary after the race.
"Nevertheless, I worked hard and was competitive...my
fitness is coming."
Hilary ended up 15th overall. Ethiopian Tsige
Worku, who actually resides in Switzerland, was the overall
women's winner.
