Hilary
finds motivation in poor results at World Indoors
With
a sold out stadium and 159 nations being represented, this
year’s World Indoor Champs was considered the largest
indoor champs so far. And, being an Olympic year, athletes
brought their top game making the competitive level very high.
But, it was not her day, as Hilary failed to make the final
in Valencia on Saturday. She was extremely disappointed, but
claims the dissatisfaction makes her hungrier for success.
“It was not a good day for me today, I just didn’t
have it and as the race progressed I couldn’t get my
legs going to follow the pace, it was really frustrating,”
said Hilary. “But this just fuels my fire to get ready
to compete better this summer.”
Hilary claims all her training has been going well leading
into the championships, but admits she felt really tired a
couple weeks ago from hard training, which is when they started
bringing her training down a bit for Valencia.
“Since my goal is to be ready for the summer, this indoor
season was a delicate balance of how hard to push leading
into Valencia. I have been training really hard and have been
able to handle it better than ever, but of course you’re
going to get tired. We brought it down in the last week, but
obviously my body was not quite feeling it today. It happens,
but I am confident that my preparation will be right for Beijing.”
After a short break, Hilary will start preparation for the
summer season and start the quest for Beijing qualification
in mid-May. To make the Canadian Team, she must achieve the
Canadian A+ standard (4:05.70) one more time between May and
the beginning of July.
