Hilary
takes two more steps forward in Lille and Jerez, but not yet
enough
It’s been a bumpy ride for Hilary in the last month
with having some less than normal performances and watching
her Olympic dreams disappear with each race. But despite everything,
she says she has remained positive and optimistic.
In the last week, Hilary raced two 1500s in Spain and France.
Both faster than previous times at 4:12, but still not up
to par with what she and her coaches feel she is capable.
“I opened the season with 4:12 so I know I should be
running faster. I have one more chance at Nationals and I’ll
be putting everything I’ve got into that race.”
Fortunately, Hilary got some answers to some of her recent
poor racing performances when a blood test revealed her iron
or hemoglobin was very low. This means she is not getting
the optimal amount of oxygen in her blood, which can have
a detrimental effect on the body when it faces oxygen debt
at the end of the race.
“I’m relieved to have figured out the problem.
I got an iron injection on Monday and now I’m just hoping
it kicks in fast. I’m running out of time, but I’m
still not giving up.”
Hilary will travel to Canada this week to compete at the Canadian
Olympic Trials July 3-6th in Windsor, Ontario.
“I’m really looking forward to the trials because
I know I am not alone, I have so many family members and friends
coming to cheer me on so I’ll definitely have a support
team to cheer me on which makes a huge difference.”
