Morocco
hosts successful new meeting in Rabat
The first ever Rabat Super Grand Prix opened in the presence
of a near-full stadium, which included royalty of Prince Mohammed
IV of Morocco.
And, Morocco did not disappoint in the organization and the
facilities it had to offer, with the amazing new Rabat stadium
that is comparable to any major championship site. However,
the surface of the track still needs some age as times weren’t
blistering in this inaugural meet.
The women’s 1500m went off well with a pace aiming around
4:05, however, it slowed in the second half after the rabbit
dropped out. In the end, local hero Btissam Lakhaoud won in
4:06.71. Hilary again struggled to find her form and finished
10th in 4:14.14.
“I am again frustrated, but not ready to give up on
obtaining the Olympic standard. I’m fit and will continue
to do what I can to race well in the coming weeks,”
said Hilary after the race.
Next up Hilary will race in Spain and France on June 24th
and 27th, respectively, before heading back to Canada for
the National Championships on July 3-6th.
