Hilary
runs new indoor pb and first place at Swiss Champs
This past weekend Hilary had one last competition before the
World Indoors in two weeks. She stepped down in distance to
work on speed by racing the 800m at the Swiss Indoor Championships
and it proved to be a successful test.
On day one of the championships, Hilary advanced to the final
by running a 2:10 to easily win her heat, running the last
400m in 62 seconds. She explained that the heats were good
practice for what’s to come in Valencia.
“My goal for this weekend was to get something out of
both rounds of the 800m. So for the heat I wanted to run tactically
for the first half and then have a quick change of pace for
the second half,” said Hilary. “ Looking at past
world indoor 1500s, it seems there are a lot of pace changes
so I think this was good practice.”
In the Swiss final, Hilary led wire-to-wire in an attempt
for a new pb and she was successful by running 2:06.72. Although
happy with a pb, she claims she wasn’t quite satisfied
with this run.
“Pb’s are always nice, but I didn’t run
a very smart race,” said Hilary about the final. “I
went out too fast over 400m by about a second more than I
wanted and that hurt my overall time because I faded a bit.
Nevertheless, it was a good stimulus and prep for Valencia.”
Hilary will meet the Canadian team in Valencia, Spain for
the World Indoor Champs from March 7-9th. Find full coverage
