Hilary
sick in Dusseldorf
Friday night’s competition in Dusseldorf included three
world best marks along with many other top performances from
global athletes.
The women’s 1500m had a great line-up of athletes, many
who were aiming for the European Indoor Championship standard
for their country. The pace was set for around 4:08. Coming
off a strong season opener last weekend, Hilary was excited
to get in the race with a good opportunity to run fast. However,
race day did not fare well for her as she describes the disappointment
of her final performance.
“I didn’t feel well the day of the race, but I
wanted to still try and start because you never know what
can happen. After a few laps I knew I was in trouble when
the pace, which wasn’t much different than last week,
was difficult for me. In the last couple laps I started to
get really dizzy; I didn’t want to drop out so I finished,
but it was pretty scary,” said Hilary after the race.
“I’m obviously disappointed, but your body can’t
be perfect all the time, these things happen. I just want
to focus on getting better and hopefully racing in Stockholm
in five days.”
Sylwia Ejdys of Poland won the race in 4:07.92 and proved
she will be one to watch for the European Championships, but
fellow countrymen Lidia Chojecka should not be overlooked
with her 4:09.92, good for second place.
