20, 2007 - New Balance Games, New York City
Solid mile start
Considered
one of the fastest indoor track anywhere, The New Balance
Armory Track is a great place to start the competitive season.
And, the fact that it's in New York City, makes it that much
more exciting. The 2007 New Balance Games proved once again
to be a great event with high level mid-distance athletes
from all over the world.
Although
Hilary was a bit nervous going into this race, she views it
as a good place to start the season and the perfect level
of competition for this time of year.
"Of
course I was nervous since this was really my first true race
of the season and I didn't know what to expect, but since
this is my third year back, I was also in a comfortable setting
where I knew I could just sit in and try to work hard in the
second half," said Hilary after the race. "The meet
director Ian Brooks always does a great job putting together
a good field and getting us pumped up with his announcing,
so it was definitely a positive experience."
Hilary
ran a strong race, starting in the middle of the pack and
working her way up to the leaders. The pace was slow early
on, going through 800m in about 2:17. But it progressively
picked up and was a real race to the finish line for the top
four women: Mary Cullen, Sara Hall, Carmen Douma-Hussar and
Hilary, all finishing within a half second of each other.
Cullen won in 4:32.29, while Hilary was 4th in 4:32.90.
Next up
for Hilary will be a 3000m at the Boston Indoor Games.
