Great mile races in New York.
Sunday 22 January 2006
New York, USA - Hayley Tullet (GBR), came into the 2006 New Balance Games as a former two-time champion (2003/04), having been hampered by a sciatic nerve problem for 18 months, but left the city’s famous Armory Track and Field Center on Saturday (21) delighted with a good Mile win over defending champion, Carmen Douma-Hussar of Canada.
With pace maker, veteran Alisa Harvey hitting even splits of 66.1, 2:12.6 before departing the race, Canadian Commonwealth Games hope Douma-Hussar was left out-front. However, Tullet was waiting to unleash her sprint and after hearing the famous Armory announcer, Ian Brooks say "100m to go", Hayley thought, "you know, it is 100 metres to; start sprinting now, what you've got is what you've got."
