Stellingwerff
7th in Dusseldorf
It was
another rule of tactics this past weekend for Stellingwerff
at the Dusseldorf International. Yet, this time it was tactical
in a different sense than in Stuttgart (see
Stuttgart review), in that the race began with a very
slow opening 800m. Hilary started off in the middle of the
pack anticipating a quick race given the high quality of athletes
in the race.
"I
expected the race to go out much faster, but I think everyone
was afraid to go out with Jamal [winner who was attempting
world record], myself included," said Stellingwerff.
"I didn't want to make the same mistake as last race,
but I think I was too cautious."
Stellingwerff
ended up 7th overall. And plans to race again this coming
weekend in either a 1500m in Athens, Greece or an 800m in
Gent, Belgium. She is eager to get on the line again and get
some more racing experience before the Commonwealth Games
in March.
