Stellingwerff
runs indoor best in Karlsruhe
Many of the world’s best showed up in Karlsruhe, Germany
this past weekend for the BW Bank Meeting, one of Europe’s
top indoor meetings. This is likely because according to the
meet director, it is one of the fastest indoor tracks in the
world.
And it
seemed to be just that, as Stellingwerff posted her best indoor
time ever over 1500m on the Karlsruhe track. Hilary took advantage
of an eager group of European women hoping to run fast as
they peak for European Indoor Championships next month.
“I
had heard before the race that two of the women in the race
wanted to try for about 4:05-pace. So, my plan was just to
hang on to the pack and try to run fast with them,”
said Hilary after the race.
Hilary’s
race plan was quite effective as she came through 800m in
2:12 with the lead pack of four. Over the last three laps,
the race spread out when Lidia Chojecka of Poland made a strong
push for the eventual win in a new world leading time of 4:05.44.
Hilary was fourth in a new indoor personal best of 4:10.77.
“Any
time you run a pb you have to be happy and today I definitely
was pleased with my performance. However, I’m not done
the indoor season yet, I will race one more 1500m in Stockholm
next week so of course I’m going to aim for another
pb!”
