Strong
Fall season opener with 4th place finish
Spectators
lined the streets of Martigny this past Saturday to cheer
on athletes of all ages in over 25 different races ranging
from around 1km to 8km at the 31st Corrida d'Octodura. Runners
looped around the 1km course along the main centre street
that included six turns per lap, which made it quite technical,
but interesting at the same time. And although the weather
was cool and rainy, it did not seem to dampen the spirits
of all the runners or spectators at this excellent event.
The Elite
Women's race was one of the final races of the day, was 5035m
and featured some top level athletes from Ethiopia, Russia,
Switzerland and Canada. When the gun went off, Hilary took
off with the leaders and was able to stay with them for the
first few laps. The leaders broke away in the the last kilometres.
However, Hilary finished strong in 4th place with a time of
17:06, and just 26 seconds behind winner Aster Bacha Denisie.
"I
was pretty happy with my final result today," said Hilary
after the race. "I've been training really hard and it's
nice to get a race in and see where I'm at. I feel that I'm
stronger than last year so hopefully I can just stay healthy
and keep training like I've been."
Hilary's
next race is another road race in Bulle, Switzerland on November
18th.
